Our Beautiful Rivers

Residents of the Greater Columbia area are fortunate to live in a place where three rivers flow through our capital city. Our rivers set us apart from other metropolitan areas because of the incredible natural beauty and recreational opportunities the Lower Broad, Lower Saluda and the Congaree Rivers have to offer us, right in our own “backyard.” Let’s not forget what a treasure these rivers are to the Midlands.

Vista of Rivers - Artistic Posters

Dr. Blake "Buddy" Atkins of Columbia is a talented photographer and has been taking pictures of natural scenes and local landmarks for a series of posters he has named a "Vista of Rivers."

Clearing Gills Creek

On August 1, about 50 volunteers gathered on the banks of Gills Creek and they were ready to get dirty.  Congaree Riverkeeper partnered with the Gills Creek Watershed Association to mobilize volunteers in an effort to clear a navigable kayak trail on Gills Creek.  Two teams of volunteers braved the spiders and poison ivy to clear out the many snags blocking the creek.  Thanks to everyone's help, we were able to clear Gills Creek from Shop Rd. down to I-77 and from Bluff Rd. down to Whitehouse Rd.

Congaree Riverkeeper has a boat

Hello Everybody,

Last week Mr. and Mrs Dorn of Columbia were kind enough to donate their boat to the Congaree Riverkeeper.
