Midlands River Coalition Kicks off Third Season of Water Quality Monitoring

May 09, 2019
On May 1st the Midlands Rivers Coalition began its third year of water quality monitoring of the major rivers in the Columbia area. The monitoring includes 11 sample locations on the Lower Saluda, Broad, and Congaree Rivers. The testing will be conducted weekly from May through September and published each Thursday on HowsMySCRiver.org

The Midlands Rivers Coalition is made up of river-related businesses, environmental organizations, academia, local and state government, recreation providers, industry and other users of the rivers.
The first objective is to make water quality information more frequently, and readily, available to river users so they can make informed decisions about when to recreate in the river. During the 2018 monitoring period, the coalition collected over 300 water quality samples. The coalition had great success in quickly sharing the results through the website. In the 2019 season, the coalition is excited to be able to post signs in 21 locations as an additional step in informing and empowering river users. For more information visit HowsMySCRiver.org.
