2024 In Review
Take a look at some of the highlights and accomplishments from the last year.

We've been busy in 2024 - on the water organizing cleanups and collecting water quality samples, at the State House and city halls advocating on policy issues, and even filing a lawsuit in federal court to hold polluters accountable. Below are just some of the highlights and accomplishments from the last year:
- With the help of nearly 200 volunteers we removed more than 9,000 pounds of trash from our rivers and streams through our volunteer cleanups.
- We responded to dozens of citizen pollution reports, investigating and responding to issues from fish kills and flood damage to sewer spills and stormwater runoff.
- We filed a Clean Water Act lawsuit to address PFAS "forever chemical" pollution from an industrial facility impacting the Saluda River and downstream communities.
- We continued to lead local water quality monitoring efforts, including the
Midlands Rivers Coalition.
- We submitted numerous comments and provided testimony on permits, regulations, and proposed legislation at the local, state, and federal level.
- We worked to ensure that the City of Cayce keep protections in place that would prevent the development of a massive new quarry along the Congaree River and adjacent to the Congaree Creek Heritage Preserve.
- We worked with partners to help publish a national report on the dangers of pollution from plastic production facilities, including one right here on the Congaree River.
- We continued to support South Carolina's water planning efforts, helping finalize the first-ever
Broad River Basin Plan and were appointed by the Governor to the newly formed
WaterSC working group.
- And we engaged with thousands in the community through our outreach and education efforts.
We could not do this important work protecting the Broad, Saluda and Congaree Rivers without the help of all of our donors, volunteers and partners. Thank you so much to everyone who continues to support our work for clean water and healthy rivers!
